PicoWay treatments utilize a laser with high power and ultra-short pulses that are only a “picosecond” (trillionth of a second) long! The ultra-short laser pulses are what set PicoWay apart from other lasers – because they offer to a “photoacoustic” effect that avoids overheating and damaging the skin (unlike a “photothermal” approach that heats the skin and can cause prolonged downtime and scarring.)
Before the tattoo removal procedure, we apply a topical numbing cream on the target area, to ensure a comfortable procedure. The PicoWay laser then penetrates under the skin where the tattoo ink or “pigment” is deposited, while leaving the outer layer of the skin intact. The ultra short lasers pulses are absorbed by the color in the tattoo, where the laser energy literally shatters the tattoo ink. The tiny particles of destroyed ink are then easily passed out of the body through the lymphatic drainage and elimination system.
Unlike many other lasers, the PicoWay laser treats a wide range of tattoo colors across a broad range of skin types – meaning it can effectively eliminate most tattoos.
